NY Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan introduced in Tarrytown

Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan is introduced during a press conference at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown, New York, May 8, 2025.

What a riveting start to the Stanley Cup Final.

Game 1 took place on Wednesday night and it was must-see TV, as the Oilers rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Panthers 4-3 in overtime in Edmonton.

Thanks to a delay-of-game, puck over glass penalty from Florida’s Tomas Nosek, Edmonton was handed a power play late in the extra period and converted, with Oilers’ stars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl connecting to score the game winning goal and sending the 18,000+ fans in Rogers Place into a frenzy.

Draisaitl overtime winner was his third OT goal already this postseason, tying for the most in NHL history in a single playoff with four other players, which includes when Panthers’ forward Matthew Tkachuk achieved the rare accomplishment in 2023.

The Game 1 overtime loss snapped the Panthers 31-0 record when leading after the first or second period in the playoffs under head coach Paul Maurice.

Now, the Oilers look poised to take a commanding 2-0 series lead while the Panthers aim to tie the series and head back to Florida with home ice advantage for Games 3 and 4.

Here are the betting odds prior to Game 2, including our breakdown on the spread, total and moneyline prediction for Game 2 between Panthers and Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final:

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Friday, June 6:

Oilers vs. Panthers spread: Panthers +1.5 (-225), Oilers -1.5 (+185)

After a hot start with a goal less than two minutes in, the Oilers -1.5 puck line was essentially a pipe dream after the Panthers scored two goals less than two minutes apart halfway through the first period and held a lead for a majority of the game until Edmonton tied it with time winding down in the third period.

Now going into Game 2, the odds on the spread remain similar, with the Oilers still at +185 to win by multiple goals and the Panthers a heavy favorite to cover the +1.5 puck line at -225.

Given their performance for a solid chunk of Game 1, I wouldn’t be surprised if Florida’s able to steal Game 2 with a win. They were so close to taking the series opener and who knows what could’ve happened if Edmonton doesn’t get gifted a power play in overtime.

With all that being said, I’m still sticking with the Oilers here, as they’ll take Game 2 by at least two goals.

Prediction: Oilers -1.5 (+185)

Oilers vs. Panthers total: Over 6 goals (-120), Under 6 goals (+100)

With three goals scored in the first 12:30 of the game and five total goals in the first 23 minutes, it seemed as if the total was going to skyrocket past the total that was set at 6.5 goals.

However, only one more puck found the back of the net in regulation, when Oilers’ defenseman Mattias Ekholm tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period.

Yes, I was on the under in Game 1. But after seeing the style in how both these teams played in the first game, I’ll be on the over in this spot and moving forward until these two franchises show they’re more capable of playing a slowed down, defensive style type of game which I don’t see happening here.

Bet on there being more than six goals scored in Game 2.

Prediction: Over 6 goals (-120)

Oilers vs. Panthers moneyline: Oilers -130 (Bet $130 to win $100), Panthers +110 (Bet $100 to win $110)

Just as they were in Game 1, the Oilers are back to being the favorites at -130 on the moneyline. The big difference here is the Panthers.

After Florida’s performance in Game 1, the Panthers are a +110 to win Game 2 after being +145 on Wednesday night, a significant increase in Florida’s favor from the oddsmakers.

Could we see a similar situation play out in Game 1 with the Panthers taking a multi-goal lead and the Oilers fighting back? No doubt.

But I don’t see that happening come Friday night, as Edmonton maintains a lead for a majority of Game 2, and adds an empty net goal to win 5-3 and take a 2-0 series lead with the Stanley Cup Final heading to the Sunshine State for Games 3 and 4.
