Los Angeles Kings News & Notes

Los Angeles dropped to 2-5-2 with a 3-1 loss at New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. Scott Laughton opened the scoring at 15:57 of the second, just after stepping out of the penalty box, with Adrian Kempe and Andre Lee assisting on the Kings’ second shot of the period. Anthony Mantha answered at 18:43. Anton Forsberg started in net, and the Devils outshot the Kings 14-3 in the middle frame.

The Kings practiced Sunday in Newark with the focus again on generating offense through the lineup. Alex Laferriere has been staking a claim to a spot on the top forward line as that search continues. Los Angeles stays on the road to face the Rangers at Madison Square Garden, where New York has yet to lose at home this season and where Artemi Panarin returns to face his former club.

New York Rangers News & Notes

The Rangers yesterday announced they have signed goalie James Reimer to a one-year deal. The signing comes after Reimer picked up a shutout on Friday as he stopped all 35 Providence Bruins shots he faced. Reimer had signed a PTO with the Hartford Wolf Pack and have Friday’s performance earned himself a contract.

The Rangers have dropped two straight and have lost four of their last five games. During the five game stretch, they’re averaging 2.8 goals per game while allowing 4.4 goals per game.
