Dollard’s Devon Levi found himself a decent slapshot away from where he learned his goaltending skills as a youth at the Dollard Civic Centre. The Buffalo Sabres/Rochester Americans’ goaltender was taking part in a CCM goalie event at the Hockey Sports outlet on Sources. The Dollard Minor Hockey product and Lac St. Louis Lions alumnus was swamped by friends and fans and young goaltenders eagerly and patiently waiting to speak with Levi, get an autograph and photo op with the talented netminder. “I grew up coming to this store,” Devon Levi said. “Now my picture is on it, it’s insane.”
Levi played nine games with the Sabres and 42 in the regular season with the Americans. He was between the pipes for eight post-season contests before bowing to the Laval Rocket in the North Division best of five final. He finished sixth among the league’s goalies in the regular season campaign with Levi posting seven shutouts while earning a .919 save percentage and allowing only 2.12 goals per game. In playoff action, Levi had two clean sheets, allowed 2.52 goals per game and had a .910 save percentage. “I learned so much,” Levi said. “I played like 60 games this year, just have that experience under my belt is huge.”
When it comes to professional athletes, it isn’t an off-season, it’s the next season. Levi is enjoying some time off at the moment, but his focus will be on the upcoming training camp and making the big club roster. “I’m off right now just taking care of the body,” he said. “But I’ll be back on the ice soon and get back to work. I’m looking forward to camp, it will be a good challenge. I think it’s going to be great.” n
