He played 15 years in the NHL, including five with the Bruins from 2005 to 2010.
Sturm coached internationally. Then, he was an assistant with the Los Angeles Kings and most recently was the head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate.
“I’ve been through it as a player,” Sturm said. “I’ve been through it as a coach to be part of it, and those big moments actually , those help me a lot.”
Sturm said he knows how much the Bruins mean to the city of Boston and its fans.
He replaces interim head coach Joe Sacco. Former head coach Jim Montgomery was fired in November.
