The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly eyeing up a new location for a practice facility, which the team is in desperate need of after over a decade of searching for one in the city.

As we enter the offseason, the Vancouver Canucks have a lot they want to do in order to upgrade their NHL roster, but aside from that, the team also has aspirations of finding a practice facility they can call their own.

Being one of the only teams in the National Hockey League without their own practice facility has hurt the organization at times, most recently with the departure of Rick Tocchet, who who said it played a role in his decision to leave.

“”I would be lying to you if practice facility wasn’t a reason.” Tocchet said.

Ideally, having a brand-new practice facility would be perfect for the Vancouver Canucks, but the odds of that happening are quite slim at this point, with the team searching for alternative options.

Earlier this month, some of Vancouver’s top brass including Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford toured a potential practice facility in Burnaby which has two NHL-sized rinks, including a second-floor viewing area for fans, along with multi-purpose rooms that’ll likely need to be renovated to accommodate the team for a gym/weight room.

Along with the Burnaby location, it appears that the Vancouver Canucks also have their eyes at a potential facility within the city, although they may have to share it with the expansion PWHL club.

Vancouver City Councillor Mike Klassen shared this week that they’ve spoken with the Canucks, who are interested in using the Agrodome at the Pacific National Exhibition.

“There are conversations going. Where they’re at at this point is unclear. But there is a strong expression of interest,» Klassen said while on Halford and Brough on Sportsnet radio.

He went on to add, “For [Vancouver’s new PWHL team], the Agrodome will be their practice facility. It makes sense for me, but we have to sort of see whether it pencils out for the Canucks organization to be a part of that as well. But I could just see it. Again, it takes money to invest.”

Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford was asked by the media back in April about the status of a practice facility and he believes they’ll get something done, but couldn’t commit to when it’ll happen.

“I assure you, we’re going to get this done, maybe long after I’m here, maybe long after I’m even on this earth but it’ll get done,” Rutherford said.
