Catton is coming off an incredible season in Spokane, leading the Chiefs to the WHL Championship and tallying 109 points in 57 games, the highest average (1.91 points/game) of any season in his WHL career.

The CHL Sportsman of the Year is given each season to the most sportsmanlike player in the Canadian Hockey League. Catton is just the second Spokane Chief to ever win the award and the first since Pat Falloon, who earned the award in 1991.

Catton only served 30 penalty minutes in 57 games while being dominant on the ice, adding another 42 points in 20 postseason games to lead the Chiefs to their first WHL Championship since 2008.

Catton has potentially two more seasons of eligibility with the Chiefs if he doesn’t make the leap to the NHL next season with the Kraken. Catton played in preseason games for the Kraken but has yet to officially make his NHL debut.

Medicine Hat’s star and projected NHL No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna won the CHL Player of the Year, becoming the third-youngest player ever to win the award.
