Live Updates: LSU baseball vs. UCLA in a weather delay

LSU baseball and UCLA will square off in Game 8 of the 2025 College World Series on Monday night. Both programs began their Omaha trip 1-0, earning a spot in the winner’s bracket. LSU beat Arkansas 4-1 thanks to a stellar outing from Kade Anderson. UCLA held off a late charge from Cinderella Murray State for a 6-4 victory.

The winner of Monday’s contest will be right on track for a spot in the CWS final. Historically, 74% of all CWS final teams started 2-0 in Omaha. With a win on Monday night, LSU would need just one more victory to win Bracket 2.

Anthony Eyanson will take the mound for LSU. The transfer righty is one of the hottest pitchers in the country, owning a 1.89 ERA since March 28. He wasn’t as sharp in LSU’s super regional, but he still managed to get through five innings and keep LSU in position for the win.

LSU and UCLA have a little history. Their last meeting came right here in Omaha with UCLA winning a 2-1 pitcher’s duel in 2013. LSU leads the all-time series 3-2.

Weather could disrupt LSU pitching plans

LSU starter Anthony Eyanson was rolling after a rough first. A long weather delay potentially brings his night to an early end. If Eyanson isn’t able to resume the game, the pressure is on LSU’s bullpen to get the job done.

It makes winning this all that more important. If LSU wins, the Tigers have an entire day to rest the bullpen before playing on Wednesday. A loss, and LSU is forced to play a back-to-back on Tuesday, further taxing the pen.

Just before the top of the fourth inning, the game entered a weather delay.

With two outs, LSU catcher Luis Hernandez found the hole for an RBI single. LSU leads 5-3 in the bottom of the third.

UCLA makes pitching change

Chris Grothues is on to pitch for UCLA. He has a 4.94 ERA in 19 appearances. He’s not a strikeout pitcher, but does a good job at keeping the ball in the park and opponents are hitting just .211 vs the lefty.

Eyanson tosses another scoreless inning

Eyanson kept UCLA off the board in the third and it’s 4-3 LSU as we head to the bottom of the inning.

Through three innings, Eyanson has yet to allow a walk. He’s thrown 44 pitches; 32 of them strikes.

Eyanson issued a hit by pitch, but responded with a scoreless second inning. Eyanson struck out Roch Cholowsky for his first strikeout of the night. We head to the bottom of the second with LSU leading 4-3.

Jake Brown ripped a single into center field, scoring Ethan Frey. UCLA’s lead is 3-1. LSU has runners on the corner with one out.

Curiel grounded out to start the game, but Ethan Frey gave LSU its first hit of the night with a single to center field. Then Steven Milam doubled down the right field line. LSU has runners on the corners with one out.

LSU gets out of the inning

It was a rough first inning for starter Anthony Eyanson. The Bruins scored three runs on four hits. Two of UCLA’s key hits came with two strikes in the count. The Tigers are down 3-0 as we head to the bottom of the first.

Eyanson was commanding the ball; 18 of 23 pitches were strikes. But UCLA was finding contact.

Tanner Reaves, a junior college transfer, is getting the start for LSU at third base. We’ve seen Jay Johnson turn to Reaves vs righties with the struggles of usual third basemen Michael Braswell. In 64 ABs, Reaves has three home runs and three doubles. He’s hitting .266 with a .453 slugging. Reaves is yet to record a hit in the postseason, but LSU will hope his luck flips on Monday.
