The annual high school ice hockey summer league officially got underway on Monday.
After being held at Southgate Arena a year ago, the league made its return to its more traditional home at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton. Beginning in mid-June, the 12-team league will run all the way until late July
Monday’s league opener featured a slate of games, including Gibraltar Carlson taking on Riverview Gabriel Richard, followed by Dearborn Divine Child battling Wyandotte Roosevelt.
Games are closely aligned with an official high school game, featuring three 15-minute periods as opposed to the typical 17-minute stanzas. It is a contrast from the two 22-minute halves teams played in the league last summer.
