With the New York Rangers trading pieces of their “core” like Chris Kreider, the team will need to fill the gap. According to The Athletic’s Peter Baugh, the New York Rangers could fill some gaps in the lineup by signing Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter in July.
Trade talks are picking up as July inches nearer, and nearer. The Rangers have already traded Chris Kreider near the middle of the postseason to the Anaheim Ducks.
But that isn’t the end of the Rangers’ offseason trades or deals. As the Athletic’s Peter Baugh has shed some light on one of Chris Drury’s next moves in July.
Baugh has linked Canucks Center Pius Suter to the New Rangers after they’ve gain $6.5 million in space to to work with.
«Suter might be too expensive for the Rangers because of their cap situation, but New York has created a bit of flexibility after the Chris Kreider trade,» Baugh wrote. «He’s a versatile player who would slot in perfectly at third-line center. Allowing the team to keep Mika Zibanejad on the wing. It might not be possible, but he’d be a good fit.»
Suter will be a pending UFA in July, and has completed his two-year, $6.4 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Suter could be a great forechecker to add to the lineup and offers some offensive upside for Mike Sullivan to work with.
Last season Suter added 46 points (25-21) in 81 games with the Canucks under Head Coach Rick Tocchet, a career-year for a forward whose had a difficult time finding a home in the NHL.
Now, he’ll be looking for a better payday in July.
