As the Maple Leafs look to exorcize first-round demons again, Mitch Marner has put forth yet another disastrous performance in an elimination game.
Another elimination game, another disappearing act from the Leafs’ Core 4 was the story from Game 5 on Tuesday night.
Game 5 marked the 17th elimination game for William Nylander and Marner. While much has been made of their performances in elimination games, Marner is the one that has been struggling most to perform.
Nylander has been among the most productive of the Core 4 with elimination on the line with 13 points in 17 games. Marner, on the other hand, has just 5 points in 17 elimination games.
After an excellent start to the series, the Marner of old reappeared in Game 5 and if he and the rest of the Core 4 are unable to find another level to their games on Thursday, Saturday could very well be the final time Marner wears a Maple Leafs jersey.
