K'Andre Miller

The New York Rangers will be shopping K’Andre Miller, as it’s been established that there are 12 to 15 NHL teams who are interested in his services. If the New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury were to trade with the Buffalo Sabres, who could they secure in return?

Will the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers combine for a trade in July?

Are the Buffalo Sabres one of the many NHL teams that are interested in acquiring K’Andre Miller? He’s been a top-four defenseman in New York the majority of his career and is no stranger to playing big minutes.

With the Sabres going through troubles of their own, and many players looking for the exit, GM Kevyn Adams and GM Chris Drury could find common ground in a trade for him.

Miller is only two years removed from his 43-point (9-34) season in 2022-23, and has yet to hit his prime as an NHL defender.

While the Rangers won’t have much interest in other Sabres players, they could find a way to acquire someone like Bowen Byram, a former Stanley Cup champion, or JJ Peterka, who is another RFA who isn’t happy in Buffalo.

A trade for Peterka might take more than just K’Andre Miller to make it happen, as we have to consider a potential offer sheet for Peterka, who could be due $7-7.5 million in 2025.

Hypothetically, it might involve K’Andre Miller, and a 2nd-round and 3rd-round pick both in 2026 to begin the discussion for the 68-point forward.

The Rangers could finally find a new home for former 57-point (29-28) forward in Buffalo. The former 1st overall pick hasn’t found a way to tap into his best game in New York despite thriving in 2023-24 under Peter Laviolette.

The Rangers could move Alexis Lafreniere for Alex Tuch in a blockbuster deal, which would give the Blueshirts more firepower on the top-six, while Lafreniere would get a fresh start with the Sabres.

Tuch would essentially be a rental for the Rangers unless he could be convinced to be extended by GM Chris Drury. It shouldn’t take much, considering how underwater the Sabres have been recently.

While Lafreniere could be an excellent player for the Sabres, who comes at a cost-controlled contract he signed recently, paying him $7.45 million AAV.
