Clarkson University women’s hockey standouts made up three of the first nine selections in Tuesday night’s Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Draft in Ottawa.
Defender Haley Winn was selected second overall by the Boston Fleet. Another defensive standout, Nicole Gosling, was picked fourth overall by Montreal Victorie. Forward Anne Cherkowski went to the New York Sirens with the ninth pick.
“To have all three of them chosen in the first nine picks shows the dedication and effort they all put into their development during their time at Clarkson,” said Clarkson coach Matt Desrosiers in a statement. “It was such a proud moment for our program to watch them walk across the stage in the first steps to reaching their goals and dreams of playing professional hockey.”
Winn is the highest-drafted Clarkson player in PWHL history. Winn is the reigning ECAC Player of the Year and league Defender of the Year. She was a Patty Kazmaier Award finalist and first-team All-American. She finished her senior year with 14 goals and 32 assists.
Winn also was part of the gold-medal-winning U.S. team at this year’s Women’s World Championships.
Gosling played five years for the Golden Knights and graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer among defenders with 44 goals and 104 assists for 148 points.
Gosling, also an ECAC first-team selection, played for Canada in the 2024 World Championship, winning gold.
Cherkowski wrapped up her career at Clarkson with 17 goals and 28 assists and was named to the ECAC first team.
“What an incredible night for Haley, Nicole, and Anne. We can’t wait to watch them make an impact on their respective teams and the PWHL,” Desrosiers said.
