The Seattle Kraken acquired veteran center Frederick Gaudreau from the Minnesota Wild on Thursday morning in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round draft pick.

NHL insider calls Kraken trade of disappointing Burakovsky ‘incredible’

Gaudreau, 32, spent the past four seasons in Minnesota, where he totaled 134 points (56 goals and 78 assists). This past season, he posted 37 points (18 goals and 19 assists) in 82 games. He scored a career-high 19 goals with the Wild in 2022-23.

Gaudreau has three years remaining on his current five-year deal at an average annual value of $2.1 million, according to PuckPedia.

Over his eight-year NHL career, Gaudreau has recorded 152 points (61 goals and 91 assists) in 410 career regular-season games with the Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota.

“Frederick’s a versatile skater who plays a strong two-way game,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said. “He gives us depth down the middle and has the ability to produce offensively. He’s a player who can be trusted on the defensive side of the puck, especially on the penalty kill. We’re excited to welcome him to the team.”

Gaudreau has appeared in 32 career playoff games, recording eight goals and two assists. He made his postseason debut in 2017 with Nashville and became the first player since 1944 to score his first three career NHL goals in a Stanley Cup Final. Two of those Stanley Cup goals were game-winners.

Thursday’s trade continues a busy past week for the Kraken.

Last Thursday, Seattle traded a pair of draft picks to the Dallas Stars in exchange for 30-year-old forward Mason Marchment, who is coming off a 22-goal, 25-assist campaign. And last Saturday, the Kraken dealt veteran forward Andre Burakovsky to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for 25-year-old center Joe Veleno.
