There is under a week until free agency opens, and a lot of eyes are going to be on former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand if he doesn’t re-sign with the Panthers.

Sam Bennett has been in talks with the Florida Panthers, and is closing in on an extension, which takes another big name off the free agent market. With this, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to replace Mitch Marner, who is expected to leave the organization in free agency.

Brad Marchand would be the next biggest name, and could be seen as an upgrade over Marner with his recent playoff performance.

Contract in place for Marchand to sign with the Maple Leafs?

“I’ve got a DM from someone really reliable… I’ve heard rumblings that it’s already agreed upon, 4x$9M for Brad Marchand [in Toronto].”

Ryan Whitney and Keith Yandle thought it was funny coming from a Leafs fan, with Bissonnette following it up by stating all parties involved know a deal is on the table:

“That’s the problem, I have agreed to it and so have the Leafs, but he just hasn’t seen it yet, he’s just blocked the emails coming in from Toronto.”

He finished it off by stating the Leafs would set a new standard if they signed Marchand, especially if they lose both Marner and Tavares.

“That would be unreal. That would be a culture setter, that would make losing Tavares, if you do, not as painful. We knew Marner was gone.”
