After the 2025 NHL draft wrapped up on Saturday, Stars GM Jim Nill spoke to reporters about the team’s draft class.

That wasn’t the only thing discussed, as he also provided an update on the team’s coaching search, confirming that assistant coach Alain Nasreddine has been interviewed to be the team’s next head coach.

Dallas has conducted multiple interviews since firing Pete DeBoer, and Nasreddine is the latest internal candidate the team has interviewed.

Nasreddine has head coaching experience in the NHL and has been in the league since 2015 when he was hired as an assistant for the New Jersey Devils. He served as the team’s interim coach for 43 games in the 2019-20 season until the Devils hired Lindy Ruff in October 2020. He stayed with New Jersey as an assistant until he joined Dallas’ staff in July 2022.

In his time with the Stars, Nasreddine’s focus has been defense and the team’s penalty kill, a unit that has been among the league’s best. Since Nasreddine got to Dallas, the Stars’ penalty kill ranks second in the NHL with an 82.5% kill rate.

The team has also reportedly interviewed Oilers assistant and former Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan. Neil Graham, the head coach of the Stars’ AHL affiliate, is also considered a candidate for the job.
