NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Nashville Predators selected Brady Martin, a physical Center who said his backup career would be a farmer, with the 5th overall pick in the NHL Draft.
Martin played the last two seasons with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League. This past year, he had 72 points in 57 games.
Known for his physical style of play, the 18-year-old calls himself a pretty skilled forward.
“I think I play the game the right way,” said Martin. “I play physical and compete hard every shift, so I think that’s what teams need nowadays to win and I think I bring that mentality and determination to win.”
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
Martin stayed home on the family farm to watch the Draft with friends and loved ones.
He noted being raised on the farm taught him discipline and hard work and that translates to the ice.
“My responsibilities on the farm are taking care of the cows, the beef cows, the dairy cows, the chickens. Doing anything that father asked of, I guess. Trying to get the hang of things. Growing up and learning that to have a bit of a backup plan if hockey were to go sideways.”
