As Glen Gulutzan<\/a> reacclimates to Dallas, many fans are wondering how his coaching style differs from Pete DeBoer\u2019s. The new Dallas Stars coach offered an explanation during a Wednesday appearance on Sportsradio 96.7 FM\/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM).<\/a><\/p>\n

Before he broke down the key differences, Gulutzan credited DeBoer for his success in multiple NHL head coaching stops. Gulutzan described DeBoer as a \u201ctop coach in this league,\u201d saying he\u2019s not going to try to dismantle what the former head coach built in Dallas.<\/p>\n

Gulutzan then emphasized how he wants the Stars to boost their physicality.<\/p>\n

\u201cCall it physicality, call it grit. A little bit more forechecking, we\u2019re going to play all skill. I think this team can play both ways. A little country, a little rock n\u2019 roll. We just got to add the other flavor to it,\u201d Gulutzan said. \u201cI just want to build, not scrap anything. I just want to build from where we were because there\u2019s a great foundation here. I want to add that one degree. I want to mention that one degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gulutzan mentioned physicality multiple times during his introductory news conference<\/a> Wednesday. He also brought up how team camaraderie will play a key role in maintaining success.<\/p>\n

During his radio appearance, Gulutzan was also asked if he would have pulled goalie Jake Oettinger<\/a> if he were in the situation the team faced in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals. Gulutzan, who was an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers when Oettinger was benched, said he was surprised by the move.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I say that to you, I probably wouldn\u2019t have [pulled him],\u201d Gulutzan said. \u201cI\u2019m a little bit more patient by nature, and sometimes that can be a downfall. But I wasn\u2019t thinking he was going to get pulled and he did. Again, I wasn\u2019t thinking along the Dallas Star lines at that time. I was still an Edmonton Oiler.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can remember just being on the bench thinking, not that I wouldn\u2019t have done it. I was just surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n
