The Montreal Canadiens<\/a> have re-signed goaltender Jakub Dobes to a two-year, one-way contract with an AAV of $965,000. This deal carries him through the 2026-27 season. Dobes played in 30 games last season, splitting his time between the Laval Rocket<\/a> and Montreal Canadiens. He began the season in Laval, where he went 9-3-1 with a 2.44 GAA and .910SV%. In 16 games with the Habs, he put up a 7-4-3 record with 2.74 GAA, .909SV%, and one shutout. Dobes would play in three games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs after Samuel Montembeault got hurt. In those three games, Dobes went 1-2 with a 2.91 GAA and .887SV%.<\/p>\n

With the signing of Jakub Dobes, the Canadiens have three goaltenders who can play at the NHL level after Montreal signed Kaapo Kahkonen on July 1st<\/a>. I would expect Dobes and Kahkonen to battle for the backup role in Montreal next season. Regardless of who wins the spot, this is a solid signing for Montreal by locking up one of their young goaltenders.<\/p>\n

The fifth-round pick of the Canadiens in 2020 played his college hockey at Ohio State. In his two seasons with the Buckeyes , he put up a 42-28-5 record with a 2.29 GAA, .926SV%, and six shutouts. In 2022, he would be named the Best Goaltender in the B1G and hold Rookie of the Year Honors with Luke Hughes. Dobes spent his first year pro with Laval, playing in 51 games. He went 24-18-6 with a 2.93 GAA, .906SV%, and one shutout.<\/p>\n
