The 30-year-old defenseman signed a three-year, $9.75-million contract with Vancouver two summers ago. But after struggling to handle bigger minutes this season during Filip Hronek\u2019s injury absence, the writing was on the wall \u2014 especially after the Canucks added Marcus Pettersson from Pittsburgh in January as part of the J.T. Miller trade.
With Elias Pettersson (the younger one) stepping up from the AHL sooner than expected and Soucy finding himself a healthy scratch twice in February, it seemed only a matter of time before a move happened. They\u2019re reportedly listening to offers for Brock Boeser, Pius Suter, and Derek Forbort \u2014 all set to hit free agency this summer. And in a twist that\u2019s raising eyebrows, there\u2019s even chatter about star forward Elias Pettersson. While a trade for him seems more likely in the offseason, the fact that his name is floating around shows just how wide-open the Canucks’ plans are.
Despite the chaos, Vancouver is still fighting for a playoff spot. They face the Minnesota Wild on Friday night, hoping to build some momentum and shake off a rocky season.
