One team that needs to figure out an extension for an important player is the Minnesota Wild<\/a>. The Russian is under contract until the end of the season, but general manager Bill Guerin<\/a> wants to get that piece of business done. Minnesota also has to find a solution<\/a> for restricted free agent forward Marco Rossi<\/a>.<\/p>\n Both items are pressing for Guerin, who finally has some financial freedom after the cap hits from the buyouts of Zach Parise<\/a> and Ryan Suter<\/a> have been greatly reduced. Guerin has taken care of a number of things like an extension for Brock Faber<\/a>. However, the major question is finding money for Kaprizov.<\/p>\n Minnesota owner Craig Leipold has been quick to say that they\u2019ll find a way<\/a> to take care of Kaprizov. However, a contract extension has not been signed at this point.<\/p>\n What It Means<\/p>\n Russo and Smith said that both sides are taking a break from talks at this time. Both insiders said that the next round of talks will likely come when Kaprizov comes to training camp. The star forward will come to the Twin Cities sometime before camp starts.<\/p>\n Leipold stated that the Wild are in the second year of a five-year plan. However, the Athletic writers were quick to point out that all possible plans regard extending Kaprizov. It seemed like he\u2019ll be getting<\/a> at least $14 million or $15 million with his next contract.<\/p>\n Some Wild fans are likely worried that Karpizov wants to move on from the franchise. However, he\u2019s never given an indication that he wants to leave. Karpizov has said that he\u2019s happy to be in Minnesota. However, the questions won\u2019t die down until he puts pen to paper on a new contract.<\/p>\n One advantage that the Wild have is that they can offer eight years. If Kaprizov does hit the open market, teams would only be able to offer him seven years as per the new collective bargaining agreement. That could be something Guerin and Leipold could use to their advantage.<\/p>\n
