Former NHL<\/a> forward and Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> player Jay Rosehill made his feelings clear about who’d be more valuable in a potential trade completed by the Leafs, before or during next season.<\/p>\n

Rosehill believes Calle Jarnkrok would bring Toronto more in a trade than David Kampf if the team decides to move one of them. Both forwards are seasoned veterans under contract with the Leafs for one and two more seasons, respectively.<\/p>\n

In a clip from the \u201cLeafs Morning Take\u201d<\/a> podcast shared on Sunday, Rosehill said Kampf is a steady defensive forward but not a true difference-maker for a team looking to contend and needing more offensive production.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was never like super high on Kampf,\u201d Rosehill said. \u201cHe just seemed really quiet, which, okay, you could say that’s good. He\u2019s good in the D zone and good on faceoffs, but if we\u2019re talking about a team that wants to make a run, I think I need a little bit more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rosehill also pointed to Kampf\u2019s four-year, $9.6 million contract<\/a>, considering it “pretty hefty” given his role and production.<\/p>\n

Versatility Pushes Calle Jarnkrok\u2019s Value Over David Kampf’s<\/p>\n

Rosehill praised Jarnkrok\u2019s ability to play multiple spots in the lineup and step into a second-line role if required.<\/p>\n

“Jarni, I have always liked,” Rosehill said. “But (he’s) getting up there in age, and it’s hard to be dynamic, and the league’s getting as good as it is. It’s kind of hard to invoke your will on the game as well.<\/p>\n

“Which one do I like more? I think Jarni is able to play through the lineup a little bit more. I think Jarni has the kind of skill to jump into the lineup and maybe play on the second line if need be.”<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old Jarnkrok is entering the final year of his $2.1 million contract<\/a>. He was limited to 19 games last season due to a lower-body injury, scoring one goal and providing six assists.<\/p>\n

Over the last three seasons, Jarnkrok has tallied 31 goals and 36 assists in 144 games, including a 20-goal campaign in 2023\u201324.<\/p>\n

By comparison, Kampf has recorded 20 goals and 39 assists in 219 games over the same span, never reaching double digits in goals for a single season. Last year, he managed five goals and eight assists in 59 games.<\/p>\n

Trade Possibilities Ahead for the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/p>\n

NHL insider Chris Johnston reported<\/a> on August 2 that Jarnkrok and Kampf, along with Nicholas Robertson, are among the forwards Toronto could move before or during the season.<\/p>\n

The team has been reluctant to deal Robertson away, whoever, due to his age (23 years old) and scoring prowess, making the veteran duo more expendable.<\/p>\n

With $1.9 million in current cap space<\/a> and depth needed on the bottom-six forward corps, the Leafs could revisit trade discussions to create salary flexibility in an attempt to bolster the lineup.<\/p>\n

Johnston suggested the Leafs have \u201ctried for weeks\u201d to move Kampf and Jarnkrok, finding no suitors for the veteran forwards.<\/p>\n
