{"id":15859,"date":"2025-05-07T04:30:15","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T04:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/15859\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T04:30:15","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T04:30:15","slug":"san-jose-sharks-ahl-affiliate-loses-series-opener-to-colorado-eagles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/15859\/","title":{"rendered":"San Jose Sharks&#8217; AHL affiliate loses series opener to Colorado Eagles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN JOSE \u2013 The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/tag\/san-jose-barracuda\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> San Jose Barracuda<\/a> trailed by three goals by the 7:19 mark of the second period and never fully recovered in a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Eagles in Game 1 of their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/04\/27\/san-jose-sharks-san-jose-barracuda-ahl-calder-cup-colorado-eagles-ontario-reign\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AHL Pacific Division semifinal series<\/a> on Friday before a sold-out crowd at Tech CU Arena.<\/p>\n<p>The Barracuda, the Sharks\u2019 top minor league affiliate, allowed an even-strength goal to\u00a0Calle Ros\u00e9n in the first period and power-play goals to Chris Wagner and Jayson Megna in the second.<\/p>\n<p>San Jose trailed 4-1 in the third period when forwards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/03\/30\/san-jose-sharks-nhl-san-jose-barracuda-collin-graf-shakir-mukhamadullin-calder-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Collin Graf<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/01\/24\/san-jose-sharks-montreal-canadiens-colin-white-nhl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colin White<\/a> scored to cut Colorado\u2019s lead to one with 2:19 left in regulation time. But Megna and Tye Felhaber scored empty net goals for the Eagles, who took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five playoff series that continues Sunday at 6 p.m. in San Jose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, I thought it was a pretty evenly played game,\u201d Barracuda coach John McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<p>Forward<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2024\/04\/03\/sharks-first-round-pick-to-make-north-american-pro-debut-tonight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Filip Bystedt<\/a> also scored for San Jose, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/04\/01\/san-jose-sharks-yaroslav-askarov-san-jose-barracuda-nhl-ahl-axel-landen-luca-cagnoni-patrick-giles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">goalie Yaroslav Askarov<\/a> stopped 18 of 22 shots in his first playoff loss this year. The sixth-seeded Barracuda swept the No. 3 Ontario Reign in their best-of-three first-round series last week. Colorado won the Pacific Division and is the top seed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a long series and that\u2019s just game one,\u201d said Barracuda forward Patrick Giles, who assisted on White\u2019s goal. \u201cWe were saying, regardless of the score, we are going to play our game and carry that into game two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Barracuda were playing their first home playoff game at the 4,200-seat Tech CU Arena, which opened in 2022.
