Mitch Love<\/a> was the hottest name on the coaching market over the summer. Several teams brought him into their offices for interviews and second interviews before choosing other candidates. <\/p>\n Love, 41, is an assistant coach and part of the rising stars of the Washington Capitals <\/a>coaching staff under head coach Spencer Carberry, but Sunday Washington suspended Love pending the results of an NHL investigation. <\/p>\n Washington did not release further details and said via a statement that they will not comment further until after the investigation. <\/p>\n Many thought Love to be a favorite for the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> head coaching position, but his name faded from contention as the process lingered into June. Penguins president of hockey operations\/GM Kyle Dubas<\/a> eventually tabbed New York Rangers assistant coach Dan Muse to replace the terminated Mike Sullivan<\/a>. <\/p>\n ESPN reporter Greg Wyshinski reported that multiple teams that were interested in hiring Love received a letter detailing a situation that occurred prior to Love\u2019s tenure with Washington. <\/p>\n That letter spawned the investigation. <\/p>\n Hearing that the NHL and two of the teams that were interested in hiring Love as a head coach this offseason received a letter that led to this investigation.
