Head coach Jeff Blashill returns to Detroit as the bench boss for the Blackhawks. This will be our first look at how Blashill uses certain players and his tactical philosophy. The fact that this is a preseason game bears repeating. Blashill may experiment for the sake of trying things. He hasn\u2019t coached the Blackhawks before. Certain players will be trying hard to earn an NHL spot, while others may be coasting. So take everything you see with a grain of salt. <\/p>\n
Connor Bedard centers Colton Dach and Lukas Reichel on the first line. Last season, Reichel played 88:58 minutes with Bedard, and Bedard was worse for it. Together, they had a 35 Corsi and a 24% expected goals share (xG%). Colton Dach is actually playing for something here. If Dach impresses, he can secure a bottom-six spot. <\/p>\n
Oliver Moore will be on Frank Nazar\u2019s wing, alongside Aidan Thompson. Thompson doesn\u2019t really have a shot at cracking the roster, but there is a chance that Moore does. Regardless of how Moore looks tonight, it will take more than one preseason game to observe Moore. <\/p>\n
On the bottom-six, Ryan Greene is the only prospect with a chance of cracking the opening night lineup, and if he does, I would be surprised. Greene only played two games at the end of the season last year. Sam Lafferty would have to be beaten out by a rookie or have a horrid preseason to justify placing him on waivers. <\/p>\n

Defense<\/p>\n
Ethan Del-Mastro partnered with Sam Rinzel, which is interesting. I expect Rinzel to have a strong preseason. If Del-Mastro looks good, he might be able to snag a bottom pair spot. The Wyatt Kaiser and Artyom Levshunov pair gives us a look at how these two will play together should Levshunov make the roster. Kaiser was Levshunov\u2019s most consistent partner in Levshunov\u2019s 18 games. The pair had a 42 xG% and a 54% actual goals share.<\/p>\n
Finally, there\u2019s Kevin Korchinski. He\u2019s my player to watch for the preseason. Korchinski needs to prove that he can be physical, which is his only weakness preventing him from being successful in the NHL (in my opinion). Korchinski\u2019s skating and offensive reads are already NHL-ready. But if he doesn\u2019t look good in the defensive end, the Blackhawks won\u2019t have an issue sending him down to Rockford\u2014which I disagree with.<\/p>\n
