Maple Leafs May Have Made Crucial Mistake Trading This One Player<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\tThere’s a chance that the Toronto Maple Leafs could live to regret trading Nikita Grebenkin<\/a> to the Philadelphia Flyers as part of the Scott Laughton<\/a> trade at last year’s Trade Deadline.The Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to stock up at last year’s Trade Deadline, and traded for both Brandon Carlo<\/a> from the divisional foe Boston Bruins as well as Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers.<\/p>\n

Both players helped the Maple Leafs win just their 2nd postseason series since 2004, but they were beaten by another divisional foe, the Florida Panthers, in 7 games in the ECSF.<\/p>\n

Per Flyers analyst Charlie O’Connor, Grebenkin is a “clubhouse favourite” to get a roster spot with the Flyers after his impressive training camp.<\/p>\n

Nikita Grebenkin sure looks like the clubhouse favorite to nab an NHL roster spot after a standout showing on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Alex Bump<\/a> and Jett Luchanko<\/a>, on the other hand? It’s clear they need to show more.<\/p>\n

Grebenkin scored as part of the Flyers’ preseason win over the Bruins on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Did the Maple Leafs pay too high a price for Laughton?<\/p>\n

Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving caught some criticism for paying what many believed was too steep of a price for Laughton.<\/p>\n

Laughton had only 4 points (2G, 2A) in the 20 games he played for the Maple Leafs following the trade, and didn’t make much of an impact either in the postseason.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, it looks like Grebenkin could be at the start of a productive career, and the Maple Leafs could eventually live to regret trading him.<\/p>\n
