Behind every successful man, well, there truly is a woman. Want proof? Just ask Ken Spitzer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife, Jenette, actually encouraged me to get involved with the hockey organization \u2013 she knew it was a natural fit given my passion for youth sports and community development,\u201d Ken Spitzer, who was elected President of Northern Kentucky Youth Hockey Association in April of this year, told the Northern Kentucky Tribune.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-475035 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Outlook-glgxjpn1.jpg\"  data- data-eio-rwidth=\"200\" data-eio-rheight=\"200\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Outlook-glgxjpn1.jpg.webp\" srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/nkytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Outlook-glgxjpn1.jpg.webp 200w, https:\/\/nkytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Outlook-glgxjpn1-150x150.jpg.webp 150w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy motivation for taking on this leadership role is deeply personal \u2013 my son RJ, has been part of NKYHA since he was four-years-old. Over the past three decades, Spitzer has officiated at nearly every level of the game \u2013 from U8 youth to college club hockey \u2013 and he currently holds a Level 3 USA Hockey Official certification.<\/p>\n<p>He teaches at the Ignite Institute and is the head girls\u2019 soccer coach at Kentucky\u2019s Dayton High School.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Kentucky Youth Hockey Association (NKYHA) -\u2013 a nonprofit, USA Hockey-affiliated organization \u2014 is based out of the Northern Kentucky Ice Center in Crescent Springs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season,\u201d Spitzer says, \u201cmarks an exciting chapter for NKYHA. (Photo provided)<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tTravel Hockey: Competitive teams (8U-14U) that participate in ethe Buckeye Travel Hockey League (BTHL) and regional tournaments in cities such as Cleveland, Detroit, Nashville, and Columbus,<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tInitiation to Hockey (IP) and Learn to Skate:  Introductory programs for young athletes and families new to the sport, and<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tHigh School Varsity and Junior Varsity: The varsity team competes in both the Kentucky High School Hockey League (KHSHL) and the Cincinnati High School Hockey League (CHSHL), and the JV program competes with teams from Kentucky Ohio and Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>Spitzer is quite proud of the varsity team\u2019s tradition and accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won the Kentucky State Championships in 2017, 2019, and 2002,\u201d he said, \u201cand earned national tournament appearances in 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur youth travel teams have also found success, capturing tournament championships in Cleveland, South Bend, Nashville, and Detroit; further showcasing the strength and growth of our developmental programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Homecoming weekend he says, is set for November 7 and 8.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-475038 lazyload ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/NKY-Youth-Hockey-300x277.jpg\"  data- data-eio-rwidth=\"300\" data-eio-rheight=\"277\" src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/NKY-Youth-Hockey-300x277.jpg.webp\" srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/nkytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/NKY-Youth-Hockey-300x277.jpg.webp 300w, https:\/\/nkytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/NKY-Youth-Hockey.jpg.webp 638w\"\/>NKY youth hockey at the NKY Ice Center (File photo)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is where all NKYHA teams will take the ice at our home run,\u201d Spitzer said. \u201cThe weekend will feature split-the-pot raffles, silent auctions, and gift-basket raffles, along with great food and drink options for families and fans. All proceeds will directly support improvements to our training equipment, scoreboard, and programming options \u2013 continuing our mission to enhancer the hockey experience for the entire Northern Kentucky community.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The NKYHA League Structure is:<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tNKYHA participates in the Buckeye Travel Hockey League (BTHL) \u2013 a competitive youth hockey league that includes approximately 20 different member organizations from Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, Newark, and West Virginia. Each age group is divided into separate divisions, with 5-8 teams per-division, allowing for balanced competition and appropriate skill-level matchups throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tAges of players: Ranges from four-years-old and up to 18 years old, including the varsity division, which provides a bridge for older players continuing their hockey development.<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2022\tSeason: The hockey season typically begins in September and runs through the first week of March each year. Across that span, teams play an average of 45-65 games, including both league and non-league matchups, as well as tournaments and home events in Crescent Springs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOu association is committed to expanding opportunities for youth players across Northern Kentucky,\u201d says Spitzer, \u201cStrengthening our developmental programs, and building a community-centered culture that celebrates teamwork, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love for the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Jenette.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Andy FurmanNKYTribune staff writer It\u2019s true.
