EDMONTON \u2014 Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said forward Zach Hyman will need at least another week before returning to the lineup.<\/p>\n
Hyman, a key part of the team\u2019s offensive attack, skated with the club and said he\u2019s feeling great and ready to return to action.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe looks ready, I want to put him in,\u201d Knoblauch told a post-skate media scrum on Wednesday. \u201cThe medical staff is holding him back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hyman, who fit in ideally alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, has been out with a wrist injury that he suffered in Game 4 of the Western Conference final against Dallas on May 27.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe said it was, bare minimum, Nov. 1, and it won\u2019t be Nov. 1,\u201d Knoblauch said. \u201cIt will be at least a week after that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hyman said he\u2019ll be meeting with doctors this week and hopefully there will be no further setbacks.<\/p>\n
“I’m going to tell you I’m ready to go because that’s how I feel,\u201d he said.\u201d But at the end of the day, the doctors are the ones who are there to protect you from yourself at times and make sure that when you do return, you are able and ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hyman, who underwent surgery this summer, brings not only goal scoring \u2013 he had a career-high 54 goals two seasons ago \u2013 but also a grittiness the team is lacking up front.<\/p>\n
Knoblauch said goal scoring has been an issue in most of the team\u2019s games this season, part of the reason their record is a mediocre 5-4-2.<\/p>\n
\u201cZach is as good as anyone at scoring goals, so he would give us some depth there,\u201d Knoblauch said. \u201cAnd also with our team a little tenacity, a little grit in getting in on the forecheck.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Oilers are home Thursday to the New York Rangers.<\/p>\n
