Edmonton Oilers<\/a> captain Connor McDavid believes Zach Hyman\u2019s return will provide a much-needed lift as the forward nears clearance<\/a> to rejoin the lineup.<\/p>\n

Hyman has missed the start of the season after suffering a right-wrist injury during last season’s Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Head coach Kris Knoblauch said Wednesday<\/a> the 33-year-old remains \u201cweek-to-week\u201d but looks and sounds ready<\/a> after taking part in full practices for the first time since surgery.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wednesday<\/a>, McDavid said Hyman\u2019s presence will help stabilize a forward group still finding its rhythm, and in doing so revealed what the Oilers have missed the most this season.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Hyman] obviously skates well, he\u2019s physical, and he goes to the net hard,\u201d McDavid said. \u201cAll stuff we\u2019ve kind of been missing, so it\u2019ll be huge to get him back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hyman is eligible to come off long-term injured reserve on Saturday, but he is not expected to reappear in a game so soon following Wednesday’s update from Knoblauch.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be a huge boost for sure,\u201d McDavid said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got some young forwards on the team that are kind of finding their way, and it\u2019ll be good to get him back and everything that he provides.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hyman signed a seven-year, $38.5 million deal<\/a> in 2021 and scored 27 goals last season before the injury.<\/p>\n

The Oilers have struggled to generate consistent offense in his absence, trying different line combinations<\/a> around McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to start the season.<\/p>\n

Knoblauch expects Hyman\u2019s return to restore some balance, saying, \u201cZach is as good as anyone at scoring goals. He\u2019d give us some depth there and also some tenacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDavid said the team has \u201cmissed\u201d that edge, adding that Hyman\u2019s return could help the Oilers regain momentum after a start.<\/p>\n

Edmonton (5-4-2) will face the Matt Rempe-less<\/a>New York Rangers<\/a> on Thursday, with puck drop set for 9 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
