2025 NHL storylines include Panthers, Ovechkin and Olympic hockey<\/p>\n

The 2025-26 NHL season gets under way on Oct. 7. Sam Cardona-Norberg shares some key storylines.<\/p>\n

San Jose Sharks<\/a> defenseman Timothy Liljegren left Saturday’s game and didn’t return because of a fluke injury.<\/p>\n

Liljegren was seated on the bench when a Colorado Avalanche cross-ice pass from Nathan MacKinnon was deflected by a Sharks player and hit him up high. Players had to help him get off the bench and toward the exit that leads to the hallway to the dressing room.<\/p>\n

The Sharks later announced that Liljegren wouldn’t return to the game because of an upper-body injury.<\/p>\n

Liljegren is in his second season with the Sharks after being acquired in a trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> a little more than a year ago.<\/p>\n

He entered Saturday’s game with three assists in eight games and was averaging nearly 23 minutes a game.<\/p>\n

The Sharks won 3-2 in overtime for their second victory in a row and third in four games.<\/p>\n

Timothy Liljegren injury update<\/p>\n

Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky says he doesn’t think the injury will be long-term.<\/p>\n
