He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here.” Rutherford said.

Since then, rumors have been swirling about what comes next for the Canucks captain, whether he’ll re-sign with the team – which can happen as early as Canada Day next year, if he’ll be traded before next season’s deadline or if he’ll walk to free agency in the summer of 2027, but Hughes isn’t too focused on that right now.

Patrik Allvin gets candid about Quinn Hughes’ future with Vancouver Canucks

On Saturday night, Vancouver Canucks General Manager was on After Hours with Scott Oake and Iain MacIntyre where the latter asked him about Quinn Hughes’ future with the club.

“Well it’s, first and foremost we’re extremely happy and pleased to have Quinn Hughes leading our team as a captain. I think his game today was probably one of his best games this year. Very dynamic and becoming a great leader for the team. So, I think that’s the excitement when guys extra energy and see the growth of the younger players here and I think that’s where you’re growing together as a team and will become stronger facing adversity here with a lot of injuries to key players and still being able to play at .500 and still being able to play some good hockey. I think that’s something that excites. I know Quinn and we’ll do everything we can to keep him.” Allvin said.

The one thing that will certainly help Vancouver’s chances of keeping Quinn Hughes around long-term is if the club is able to be competitive and contend not only for a playoff spot, but a Stanley Cup too, on a yearly basis.

Hughes is a highly competitive player and wants to win a Stanley Cup just as much as the guy he sits next to in the dressing room, but if he thinks he can’t achieve that goal in Vancouver, there’s no question he’ll exercise his right and test free agency in less than two years.

The job Patrik Allvin has now is to try and find that right mix of players to make this team a contender each year and the first place to start would be by acquiring a legit second line centerman, which won’t be easy but needs to happen if the Canucks want to make a deep playoff run this year and for many, many seasons to come.

Previously on Canucks Daily

POLL

1 HOUR AGO | 72 ANSWERS

General Manager Patrik Allvin Finally Speaks Out on Quinn Hughes’ Future with the Vancouver Canucks

Do you think Quinn Hughes will sign a contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks next summer?

Photo credit: Bob Frid – Imagn Images.
