NHLI via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Not to get lost amid that hoopla, though, is the return to the Rockies of Jonathan Drouin, who scored 30 goals in 122 games there before becoming the Islanders\u2019 key outside acquisition of the offseason when he signed a two-year, $8 million free-agent contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited. I had a great time in Colorado,\u201d said Drouin, who scored the tying goal with 6:16 to go in the third period Friday night <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/15\/sports\/matthew-schaefer-scores-ot-winner-as-islanders-beat-mammoth\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to help the Islanders claim a 3-2 overtime victory against the Mammoth<\/a> at Delta Center. \u201cEveryone was great with me, from the fans, my teammates, the staff. So I enjoyed my two years there, but I\u2019m loving New York so far. It\u2019s been great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like the Islanders as a whole, Drouin is on quite a roll. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOn the ice from Long Island\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Islanders by Ethan Sears, a weekly Sports+ exclusive.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>He scored a breakaway goal and had two assists in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/08\/sports\/islanders-add-to-rangers-brutal-home-woes-with-shutout-win\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a 5-0 trouncing of the Rangers<\/a> at the Garden. <\/p>\n<p>Two nights later, he set up Mathew Barzal for the overtime game-winner against the Devils in Newark. In Vegas, he collected assists on goals by Matthew Schaefer and Barzal. And against Utah, his kick of the puck toward the net withstood video scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery impressed with him,\u201d Roy said of Drouin\u2019s two-way contributions (three goals, 11 assists, plus-7). \u201cHis 200-feet game has been really good for us.
