{"id":324304,"date":"2025-11-26T18:21:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T18:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/324304\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T18:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T18:21:10","slug":"vancouver-canucks-willing-to-listen-on-pending-unrestricted-free-agents-in-search-of-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/324304\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver Canucks willing to listen on pending unrestricted free agents in search of centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vancouver-canucks\/23\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vancouver-canucks\/23\" target=\"_blank\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> continue their search for a centre, the club has reportedly made their pending unrestricted free agent veterans available in trade talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the list would include forwards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/kiefer-sherwood\/8480748\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/kiefer-sherwood\/8480748\" target=\"_blank\">Kiefer Sherwood<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/evander-kane\/8475169\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/evander-kane\/8475169\" target=\"_blank\">Evander Kane<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/teddy-blueger\/8476927\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/teddy-blueger\/8476927\" target=\"_blank\">Teddy Blueger<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe know that Canucks management sent a note to all general managers across the league on Monday just stating that they\u2019re willing to listen on their pending unrestricted free agents &#8211; not all of their veteran players,\u201d Dreger said Tuesday on Insider Trading. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201c[General manager] Patrik Allvin is also looking for a specific return. We know that he covets a centreman, but if there\u2019s a younger player that\u2019s made available, why wouldn\u2019t the Canucks move an unrestricted free agent &#8211; pending, now &#8211; as opposed to the chaos around the trade deadline?\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sherwood, 30, has 12 goals and 16 points in 23 games this season after recording career highs in goals (19) and points (40) in 78 games last season. The winger leads the team in goals in his second season with the club. The 6-foot, 194-pound winger led the NHL with 462 hits last season, finishing with 156 more than the next closest player, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mathieu-olivier\/8479671\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mathieu-olivier\/8479671\" target=\"_blank\">Mathieu Olivier<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sherwood is making $1.5 million this season and is in the final year of a two-year, $3 million deal he signed with the team on July 1, 2024. The Columbus, Ohio native has recorded 55 goals and 114 points in 288 career games with the Canucks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/nashville-predators\/18\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/nashville-predators\/18\" target=\"_blank\">Nashville Predators<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/colorado-avalanche\/21\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/colorado-avalanche\/21\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/anaheim-ducks\/24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/anaheim-ducks\/24\" target=\"_blank\">Anaheim Ducks<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Kane, 34, has three goals and 11 points in 23 games with Vancouver this season, his first with the club after he was acquired from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> in exchange for a fourth-round pick this past summer. He is in the final year of a four-year, $20.5 million contract he signed with the Oilers in 2022. The Vancouver native has 329 goals and 628 points in 953 career games with the Canucks, Oilers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/san-jose-sharks\/28\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/san-jose-sharks\/28\" target=\"_blank\">San Jose Sharks<\/a>, Buffalo, Sabres, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/winnipeg-jets\/52\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/winnipeg-jets\/52\" target=\"_blank\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>\/Atlanta Thrashers franchise. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Blueger, 31, has played just two games this season due to a lower-body injury, although he took a step in his recovery last week as he skated in a non-contact jersey during the team\u2019s optional skate on Thursday. The veteran centre has registered one goal this season, his third in Vancouver. He is due $1.8 million in the final year of his contract. The Riga, Latvia native has 50 goals and 153 points in 420 career games with the Canucks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vegas-golden-knights\/54\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vegas-golden-knights\/54\" target=\"_blank\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/pittsburgh-penguins\/5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/pittsburgh-penguins\/5\" target=\"_blank\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Canucks (9-12-2) have gotten off to a slow start this season as they struggle with several injuries up front to Blueger, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/filip-chytil\/8480078\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/filip-chytil\/8480078\" target=\"_blank\">Filip Chytil<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/nils-hoglander\/8481535\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/nils-hoglander\/8481535\" target=\"_blank\">Nils Hoglander<\/a>. The signing of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/david-kampf\/8480144\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/david-kampf\/8480144\" target=\"_blank\">David Kampf<\/a> &#8211; following his contract termination with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> &#8211; has provided some level of relief, but the Canucks would prefer to continue adding up the middle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Canucks have dropped three straight games and sit seventh in the Pacific Division and 14th in the Western Conference with 20 points, seven points behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/utah-mammoth\/68\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/utah-mammoth\/68\" target=\"_blank\">Utah Mammoth<\/a> for the second wild-card spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Despite their spot in the standings, Dreger adds that Allvin is also willing to wait for the club to get healthy and battle for a playoff spot with the players they have in-house. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIf they don\u2019t [find a deal] and they have to wait, they\u2019re okay with that too.
