The call for the holiday weekend is for stormy weather, and no, local meteorologists aren\u2019t mistakenly looking at analytic charts on the Detroit<\/a> Red Wings when coming up with that forecast.<\/p>\n

Although, to be fair, stormy weather certainly encompasses the ice surface during recent Red Wings games.<\/p>\n

Another tornado of terrible struck at Little Caesars Arena on Friday afternoon. The Tampa Bay Lightning whipped the Red Wings 6-3. That\u2019s back-to-back losses in which Detroit has surrendered six goals.<\/p>\n

The Wings have allowed 23 goals over the past five games. They\u2019ve given up four or more goals in four of those five games, and at least five goals in three of the contests. To sound the alarm even further, all but one of those five games was played on home ice.<\/p>\n

Detroit is 1-4 over that five-game run of dismal defensive performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe gifted them the second one and the four-on-four one (that made it 5-3 Lightning),\u201d Detroit coach Todd McLellan said. \u201cThat\u2019s just the way it is. And we\u2019re not good enough to be giving stuff away for free. But I know you\u2019ve all heard that story before.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo until we fix it and take care of it, then we\u2019ll keep having these issues. Said the same thing<\/a> two days ago (following Detroit\u2019s 6-3 loss to Nashville).\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Wings Were All-Around Bad<\/p>\n

On the second Tampa Bay goal, Lightning forward Gage Goncalves picked the pocket of Detroit defenseman Albert Johansson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust an individual faux pas, whatever you want to call it,\u201d McLellan said. \u201cLike, there\u2019s no system. There is no structure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other 20 guys \u2026 dressed \u2026 had zero to do with the play.\u201d<\/p>\n

The four-on-four goal was a comedy of errors by Detroit\u2019s top defensive pairing. Moritz Seider<\/a> turned the puck over in the defensive zone. Simon Edvinsson<\/a> allowed Jake Guentzel to gain an inside position at the net front, and Guentzel redirected the puck past Detroit goalie John Gibson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s probably a pair of D that are just fumbling around in their end, and that leads to frustration,\u201d McLellan said. \u201cSo now everybody else is frustrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Do Red Wings Have The Right Personnel?<\/p>\n

McLellan even went as far as to venture into the area that most of you are certainly pondering at this moment \u2013 do the Red Wings have a team that can win?<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, you got to look and say, \u2018Okay, are we good enough? Do we have enough talent?\u2019 Yeah, we do,\u201d McLellan said. \u201cWe don\u2019t get 13 wins, 25 games in without having a team that can play well enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo are we playing well enough? No, we\u2019re not. Why aren\u2019t we?\u201d<\/p>\n

McLellan acknowledged that some of the miscues are team errors that can be corrected through better systems play. It\u2019s the individual blunders that cause him the most concern. Are they symptoms of a greater ailment, a sign that there are players who simply can\u2019t cut it as NHLers?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re an individual and you\u2019re playing, clean it up,\u201d McLellan said. \u201cAnd if you can\u2019t, then we got to start asking ourselves, \u2018Do you belong?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about all of us. If you can\u2019t clean it up, we gotta figure things out.\u201d<\/p>\n
