Matias Macelli and Dakota Joshua are among the Leafs starters who have been benched recently. Add to that list Max Domi, who was held out of Friday\u2019s matchup with the Washington Capitals in the first healthy scratch<\/a> of his Leafs career.<\/p>\n Head coach Craig Berube said Thursday that Domi needs to \u201cget engaged more in the game,\u201d per The Athletic\u2019s Joshua Kloke<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s got to get dirty down low in the offensive zone, win battles and get more engaged that way and get to the inside of the ice more,\u201d Berube said, per Kloke. \u201cThat\u2019s what I see. And when he\u2019s skating and moving, he\u2019s an effective player. But it\u2019s too inconsistent.\u201d<\/p>\n That\u2019s been a problem for the Leafs as a whole so far this season. It was visible again during the team\u2019s 4-2 loss to the Caps on Friday night, when Matthew Knies scored twice to give his team an early lead before Toronto allowed four unanswered goals.<\/p>\n William Nylander missed Friday\u2019s matchup with the Capitals due to illness. Berube said<\/a> he would \u201chopefully\u201d be available to play against the Penguins.
