The Edmonton Oilers had a much-needed offensive explosion on Thursday night, dismantling the Seattle Kraken 9-4 thanks to a combined eight points from the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid<\/a> (three goals, one assist) and Leon Draisaitl<\/a> (one goal, three assists).<\/p>\n

While the team was busy picking up a critical two points, some of their scouting staff were out in Boston, taking in the Bruins-Blues game, which ended in a 5-2 win for the home team.<\/p>\n

With so much talk about Edmonton\u2019s goaltending struggles and their search to upgrade at the position, even something as small as scouting another team will result in speculation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s especially true when Jordan Binnington<\/a>, who they\u2019ve been linked to for weeks, was in action, though it was another night to forget for the 32-year-old, who allowed five goals on 27 shots in the losing effort. <\/p>\n

It would also make sense for the Oilers brass to have had an eye on what\u2019s going on at the other end of the ice in the Bruins\u2019 crease, which was occupied by backup Joonas Korpisalo<\/a>, who stopped 37 of 39 shots in the victory. <\/p>\n

While it was a strong performance from Korpisalo, given that the veteran would appear to be a lateral move at best, it\u2019s unlikely Edmonton would have much interest. However, what about the All-Star netminder who was sitting on the bench watching?<\/p>\n

Is Jeremy Swayman<\/a> an Offseason Target for Edmonton?<\/p>\n

The Oilers being connected to Swayman is nothing new, though those rumors have certainly quieted down thanks to his strong start to the season, which has helped the Bruins to a 16-13-0 first 29 games.<\/p>\n

Boston is probably not looking to move the 27-year-old while in a playoff spot, but if they eventually fall out of the race, Edmonton could certainly come back to the table in the offseason, which is when many expect Stan Bowman to be most aggressive in his pursuit of a goalie.<\/p>\n

Swayman would be a definite upgrade over the tandem of Stuart Skinner<\/a> and Calvin Pickard<\/a>, and while it won\u2019t be an easy move to pull off, almost every player can be had at the right price.<\/p>\n

Oilers\u2019 fans would, of course, prefer to acquire a high-end goaltender this season to improve their chances of winning the Stanley Cup. That being said, their best chance to land a true number one will come this summer, and Swayman could be a name to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n
