The Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday placed winger Joona Koppanen on waivers, meaning any team can claim him by 2 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
Koppanen has one point, an assist, in 10 NHL games this season. The 6-foot-5, 217-pound Finn has a goal and an assist in 16 games this season with Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton of the American Hockey League.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, Koppanen, 27, missed practice because of an unspecified illness. He did not accompany the club for two road games, Thursday\u2019s win in Tampa<\/a> and Sunday\u2019s game in Dallas, apparently because of the same illness.<\/p>\n Putting Koppanan through waivers gives the Penguins some roster flexibility and some options.
