It had felt inevitable that Egor Zamula was headed for a change of scenery.<\/p>\n

That came Wednesday as the Flyers traded the defenseman to the Penguins in exchange for Philip Tomasino.<\/p>\n

Zamula was sent to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley a little under two weeks ago after he cleared waivers<\/a>. He had not played for the Phantoms since 2022-23, so this was a pretty significant sign that the 25-year-old had fallen down the organizational depth chart.<\/p>\n

The emergence of Emil Andrae<\/a> and a healthy Rasmus Ristolainen<\/a> had bumped Zamula down to Lehigh Valley. Ty Murchison, a prospect who was called up earlier this month for his NHL debut<\/a>, had also played some games over Zamula.<\/p>\n

Zamula, a 6-foot-3 undrafted product<\/a>, played 13 games for the Flyers this season and 168 over parts of six seasons. He had eight goals, 33 assists and a minus-12 mark in his Flyers career. He struggled at times in the defensive zone and moving the puck with pace.<\/p>\n

As he gets a new opportunity in Pittsburgh’s organization, he’s on the final year of a two-year, $3.4 million deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tomasino, a 24-year-old forward, was selected by the Predators at 24th overall in the 2019 draft. This is the second time he has been traded. Nashville dealt him to the Penguins in November 2024.<\/p>\n

The first-rounder’s best NHL season came as a rookie in 2021-22, when he had 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) through 76 games for the Predators.<\/p>\n

In seven career matchups with the Flyers, Tomasino put up five goals, his most against any NHL team.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot winger had played just nine games for Pittsburgh this season. With the team’s AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton, Tomasino had 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) and a plus-12 rating in 14 games.<\/p>\n
