Defenceman Mike Matheson<\/a> is on the ice for practice after missing yesterday\u2019s game against Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>.<\/p>\n Matheson took an elbow to the head from Panthers forward Brad Marchand<\/a> in Tuesday\u2019s 3-2 win over Florida. Matheson took the hit in overtime and Marchand was given a two-minute penalty for roughing.<\/p>\n Nick Suzuki<\/a> would score on the ensuing power play to give Montreal the win. Marchand did not receive any supplemental discipline for the hit. Matheson was set to play against Carolina but was ruled out close to game time. <\/p>\n Matheson has four goals and 18 points in 37 games with Montreal this season, his fourth with the team. <\/p>\n Vancouver Canucks<\/p>\n Forward Marco Rossi<\/a> has been placed on the injured reserve (retroactive to Dec. 30) and forward Arshdeep Bains<\/a> has been recalled from AHL Abbotsford. <\/p>\n Rossi was injured in the third period of Tuesday\u2019s game against the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> and did not return to the game. <\/p>\n Since being acquired from the Wild in the trade that sent Quinn Hughes<\/a> to Minnesota, Rossi has a goal and an assist in eight games with the Canucks. <\/p>\n Bains has one goal and five points in 26 games with Vancouver this season and six points in five AHL contests. <\/p>\n General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Marco Rossi has been placed on IR (retroactive to Dec. 30) and F Arshdeep Bains has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL).<\/p>\n \u2014 Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) January 2, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n The Canucks are in action tonight at home against the Seattle Kraken<\/a>.<\/p>\n Edmonton Oilers<\/p>\n The Oilers have recalled forwards Isaac Howard<\/a> and Quinn Hutson<\/a> from the AHL\u2019s Bakersfield Condors. <\/p>\n Howard has 10 goals and 23 points in 16 games with Bakersfield this season. In 17 games with Edmonton, he has two goals and an assist. <\/p>\n Hutson, 24, has 19 goals and 32 points in 26 games in the AHL this season, his first as a professional. <\/p>\n He scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 18 against the Boston Bruins<\/a>. <\/p>\n Edmonton hosts Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n Columbus Blue Jackets<\/p>\n Defenceman Zach Werenski<\/a> said on Friday he will return to the lineup for tomorrow\u2019s game against the Buffalo Sabres<\/a> after missing the last four games with a lower-body injury. <\/p>\n Werenski, who was named to the United States\u2019 Olympic roster Friday morning, is tied for second in defencemen scoring with 40 points along with Montreal\u2019s Lane Hutson<\/a> this season. <\/p>\n Tampa Bay Lightning<\/p>\n The Lightning have signed defenceman Charle-Edouard D\u2019Astous to a one-year, $875,000 contract extension.<\/p>\n The 27-year-old is skating in his first NHL season, scoring three goals with 13 points in 33 games. <\/p>\n He previously played the past three seasons in Europe with KooKoo Kouvola in Finland\u2019s SM-Liiga and with Brynas Gavle in Sweden. <\/p>\n D\u2019Astous had 12 goals and 39 points in 49 games last season. <\/p>\n
