Ilya Mikheyev scored twice and Artyom Levshunov added a power-play goal as the Blackhawks beat the Stars 4\u20133 in regulation.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 last night, their second win over Dallas<\/a> within a week. Artyom Levshunov scored his second goal of the season, Teuvo Teravainen scored the Hawks\u2019 second goal of the game, and Ilya Mikheyev had a two-goal night. <\/p>\n

The first period was pretty back-and-forth. The Hawks owned 61.29% of 5-on-5 shot attempts (Corsi), but the Stars had high-quality scoring chances with a 51.36% expected goals share (xG%). Scoring chances were fairly even (9-8, Hawks advantage). Artyom Levshunov opened scoring<\/a> on the power play, and it was about time considering his strong recent offensive play. Mikko Rantanen scored Dallas\u2019 first goal<\/a> following an aggressive pinch by Louis Crevier in the neutral zone. Crevier\u2019s decision to pinch was fine; he had support with Jason Dickinson picking up his assignment. But Dickinson can\u2019t let the puck carrier get behind him on the entry.<\/p>\n

The second period was challenging for the Blackhawks as they only had a 38.24% Corsi. Despite this, the Hawks capitalized on the puck possession they did get with a 50.83 xG% and two goals. Teuvo Teravainen scored<\/a> on the power play, and Ilya Mikheyev scored<\/a> a beauty. The best part of Mikheyev\u2019s goal was Matt Grzelcyk\u2019s pinch at the blue line to get Mikheyev the puck. <\/p>\n

The Dallas Stars dominated possession (52.38% Corsi) and scoring chances (70.69 xG%) in the third period. Despite being up 3-1, the Hawks still pressed and were rewarded with another goal from Ilya Mikheyev<\/a>. Even though the goal was a bit fluky, Mikheyev wouldn\u2019t have had that chance if he opted to dump the puck in instead of carrying into the offensive zone. It took Dallas with the goalie pulled to score two goals towards the end of the period, but the Hawks held on and won in regulation. <\/p>\n

Game Notes<\/p>\n

Artyom Levshunov has had a strong showing in the past few games. Tonight, he had another impressive game with a goal to show for it. He had two shots on goal, seven shot attempts in all situations, and both his 5-on-5 Corsi and xG% were north of 50% (55% and 56%, respectively).<\/p>\n

Oliver Moore has looked decent in his recent role in the middle. He had a team-high Corsi (66.67%), but the Hawks had a 32.04 xG% when he was on the ice. <\/p>\n

The Blackhawks looked much better on the breakout tonight. It seems that they\u2019ve returned to using the middle (like they did to start the season) instead of relying on the boards. They need to keep this up.<\/p>\n

I appreciate the Hawks\u2019 forechecking with a 2-1-2 in the offensive zone despite being up on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s been way overdue to place Louis Crevier on a different pairing. But who replaces him? Levshunov and Wyatt Kaiser look great together. I imagine Levshunov and Vlasic would pair well\u2014Vlasic seems like a jumbo version of Kaiser, anyway. For a good bottom-pairing defenseman, I don\u2019t know why he has spent this much time on the top-pair with Vlasic.<\/p>\n

The Hawks begin a back-to-back this Saturday with a trip to the Washington Capitals at 6 p.m. CT.<\/p>\n
