His 178 goals since the 2021-22 season began ranks 10th among NHL players.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson helped the U.S. win the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/buffalo\/news\/2025\/05\/26\/tage-thompson-s-ot-goal-leads-u-s--to-1st-world-hockey-title-since-1933\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">world hockey championship<\/a>\u00a0back in May\u00a0for the first time since 1933, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime over Switzerland. He scored six goals in the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Those contributions earned him a spot on the U.S. team at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics as one of only three additions from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/4-nations-faceoff-nhl-dcef4c79bda1ade74d472b85adcad8e8#\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the 4 Nations Face-Off<\/a>\u00a0early last year, alongside forward Clayton Keller and defenseman Seth Jones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s 6-foot-6 and can skate like the wind,\u201d\u00a0general manager Bill Guerin\u00a0said on a video call with reporters Friday. &#8220;He\u2019s got an incredible shot, scoring ability \u2014 he\u2019s got versatility, as well. He can play center, play wing, kill penalties, he\u2019s on the power play.
