Rangers owner James Dolan discussed the state of both franchises on WFAN\u2019s \u201cThe Craig Carton Show,\u201d his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/05\/james-dolan-to-break-media-silence-with-appearance-on-cartons-wfan-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/05\/james-dolan-to-break-media-silence-with-appearance-on-cartons-wfan-show\/\">first public interview since Jan. 2023<\/a>. Dolan said of the Knicks\u2019 decision to move on from head coach Tom Thibodeau after last season\u2019s run to the Eastern Conference Finals, \u201cThe team is built on the shoulders of Tom Thibodeau. He built that core. &#8230; We needed to evolve. \u2026 We tried to work that with Tom, but it really wasn\u2019t his thing. \u2026 I won\u2019t say you can\u2019t win a title with Tom. \u2026 It\u2019s just if you want to build long term competitor. \u2026 You need someone who\u2019s much more of a collaborator. \u2026Tom\u2019s a great coach; he should be a coach in the NBA again.&#8221; He added of any potential moves to acquire another high-impact player, such as Bucks F Giannis Antetokounmpo, \u201cWe love our team. I\u2019ve never seen more copacetic locker room. [Knicks President] Leon [Rose] can overrule me, but I don\u2019t see us making big change. We need to build up this group. This group could win a championship. I believe it.\u201d As for the Rangers, Dolan expressed confidence in maligned GM Chris Drury. Dolan: \u201cHe and [coach] Mike Sullivan are installing a new culture in that club. &#8230; I\u2019m being patient. &#8230; Culture doesn\u2019t turn around overnight\u201d (\u201cThe Craig Carton Show,\u201d 1\/5).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Knicks and N.Y.
