However, the roster will not include a player that Team USA dearly needed in previous Olympics – Jason Robertson. The Dallas Stars winger was left off a roster that includes forwards: Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Hughes, Dylan Larkin, Kyle Connor, Tage Thompson, Jake Guentzel, Matt Boldy, Brock Nelson, Vincent Trocheck, J.T. Miller, and Clayton Keller. The configuration of this group of forwards totals nine centers, four left wings, and one right wing. Did Robertson get snubbed when he would’ve been a better option over a handful of players?

There is a case to be made for the NHL’s 8th–ranked points leader to have been included on Team USA’s roster. Of the above-listed forwards, Jason Robertson has produced more offensive output this season. When on the ice for Dallas, Robertson contributed more goals and fewer goals against per game. Not to mention, the Dallas Stars are tied for the 2nd–most points in the NHL.

Jan 4, 2026; Dallas, Texas, USA; Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson (21) skates against the Montreal Canadiens during the third period at the American Airlines Center. It’s understandable that Team USA’s coaching staff chose Miller and Trocheck to give the team veteran leadership, and it is hard to argue against Matt Boldy’s roster spot. That leaves the roster spots of Brock Nelson and Clayton Keller. Robertson’s power play abilities are superior to Nelson’s and Keller’s. The Dallas Stars have more power play success, with Robertson on the ice, compared to Utah with Keller and Colorado with Nelson. Among NHL leaders, Robertson ranks 4th in power play goals, 8th in power play assists, and 6th in power play points. It goes without saying, Jason Robertson would have been a great power-play option for Team USA.

Dec 23, 2025; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson (21) skates with the puck in the first period against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. His speed, agility, and quick processing of information allow him to maintain positioning when focusing his attention on defending opposing teams’ offensive attacks. Regardless of primary position, evidence suggests Robertson does not lack a considerable amount of defensive abilities than Brock Nelson or Clayton Keller.

Dec 21, 2025; Dallas, Texas, USA; Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson (21) skates against the Toronto Maple Leafs during the second period at the American Airlines Center. The winger produces at an elite level. The ultimate factor came down to where Jason Robertson fits on Team USA’s roster. The coaching staff decided to select forwards who are easy to predict. They preferred the conventional route rather than being adventurous. If Team USA finds itself down late, Robertson could’ve been the spark needed for a game-tying goal. Fortune favors the bold is the perfect idiom for Jason Robertson’s Team USA snub.

Feb 22, 2020; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; Captain of the 1980 USA hockey team Mike Eurozine is introduced with the rest of the team as the 40th anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice” is celebrated before a game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers at T-Mobile Arena.
