For 54 minutes, the Flyers appeared to have everything on lock down. Then the same problems surfaced again. The power play struggles. Failing to protect a third-period lead. And ultimately, having another game go to overtime and get away.<\/p>\n
Easton Cowan scored the overtime winner just moments after the Flyers had a chance to win the game, lifting the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 2-1 win on Thursday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.<\/p>\n
Neither team scored in the opening period. The Flyers held an 8-6 lead in shots through 20 minutes.<\/p>\n
Just 55 seconds into the second period, the Flyers broke the ice. Travis Konecny scored his 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0.<\/p>\n
The Leafs had two power plays in the second period, both killed off by the Flyers. Through two periods, shots were 13-11 Toronto.<\/p>\n
The Flyers had a chance to add some insurance with 52 seconds of 5-on-3 time. They not only did not add to the lead, but gave it up. Scott Laughton scored in his return to Philadelphia, a shorthanded goal with 5:56 to play in the third to make it a 1-1 game.<\/p>\n
That forced overtime, where Trevor Zegras was stopped on a breakaway and both Matvei Michkov and Sean Couturier were unable to finish on a chance in the crease.<\/p>\n
John Tavares and Cowan went the other way on a two-on-one, with Cowan finishing off his sixth goal of the season for the win.<\/p>\n
Dan Vladar made 21 saves on 23 shots in the loss. Dennis Hildeby made 22 saves on 23 shots in the win.<\/p>\n
Konecny left the game after the second period and did not return due to an upper-body injury, marking the third Flyers player who has been ruled out of a game in the last two games.<\/p>\n
The Flyers are back on the ice on Saturday night to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first of two games this week. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
