In the last few hours, a message attributed to Jason Demers set social media on fire.

The former NHL player claims that the Montreal Canadiens will win the Stanley Cup within the next five years.

When someone from inside the hockey world puts themselves out there like that, people love it.

Jason Demers states bluntly that the Montreal Canadiens will win the Stanley Cup within the next five years, because of Kent Hughes’ strong moves

What’s also getting attention is the underlying message about Kent Hughes. You can feel that, in Demers’ view, the GM’s decisions have already altered the team’s trajectory.

You may like or dislike the moves, but several recent acquisitions are giving fans a legitimate reason to believe.

You can point to Juraj Slafkovsky, Lane Hutson, young Ivan Demidov, Jacob Fowler, Noah Dobson, and others.

When you line up those additions and those numbers in the same picture, it’s easy to see why some people are starting to think big.

Does that guarantee a parade on Sainte-Catherine Street? No, obviously not. But when a former player makes a statement like that, it’s rarely just for show.

Demers didn’t stop there, highlighting Juraj Slafkovsky’s strong recent play and suggesting he’s turning into a star right before our eyes.

“At one point people wanted to get rid of Juraj Slafkovsky. Why would you ever want to get rid of a 21 year old with that much size and skill? He is turning into a star in front of our eyes. That line of Demidov-Kapanen-Slafkovsky are fun to watch.”

– Jason Demers

Let’s just say he threw another log on the fire, and Montreal loves it.

On a smaller scale, the acquisitions of Phillip Danault and Alexandre Texier have also been excellent.

Previously on Montreal Hockey Fanatics

POLL

5 HOURS AGO | 342 ANSWERS

‘They’re going to win the Stanley Cup’: Jason Demers praises Kent Hughes’ home-run moves

Do you also think that the Canadiens will win a Stanley Cup within the next five years?

Photo credit: Jean-Yves Ahern-Imagn Images The accumulation of strong moves and outright home runs by…

[3
971,5,6306,1749,21,4,975,14
post-400792","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nhl","tag-cole-caufield","tag-hockey","tag-jason-demers","tag-kent-hughes","tag-montreal-canadiens","tag-nhl","tag-nick-suzuki","tag-stanley-cup
["GET
