The Detroit Red Wings recognized Pinckney native Dominik Shine\u2019s productivity and popularity by signing him to a two-year, two-way contract extension. The deal starts next season.<\/p>\n
Details of the deal were not announced, but he likely is receiving an increase to the contract expiring after this season. His current agreement pays him $775,000 if he plays in Detroit and $250,000 with the Griffins<\/p>\n
This new agreement is primarily a reward for Shine\u2019s play for the Griffins, although he did play nine games for the Red Wings last season.<\/p>\n
As the Griffins\u2019 captain, he has contributed 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in 26 games this season. His contributions helped his team produce the best team start (29-2-1-1) in the American Hockey League\u2019s 90-year history. Shine, 33, was also honored when he joined Travis Richards (655 games) and Brian Lashoff<\/a> (629) to become the third player in Griffins\u2019 history to play 500 games with the organization.\u00a0 Shine scored a goal in his 500th game.<\/p>\n He\u2019s a feisty, scrappy bundle of energy when he\u2019s on the ice, which has endeared him to Grand Rapids fans. The former Northern Michigan University player is playing his 10th season in Grand Rapids. Last season, Shine had a career-best 46 points for the Griffins. He is on a pace to eclipse that this season. His 27 points place him second on the Griffins scoring list.
