With William Nicholl back from injury, Quinn Hutson getting an extension, and many other prospects just generally playing well in January. It is a New Year, and a new and improved Edmonton Oilers prospect pool.

Let’s take a look at everything prospects related for Oil country this past week.

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues to go along with a feature one one standout prospect in Edmonton’s system. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is born 2001 or earlier.

Quinn Hutson, F, Bakersfield Condors, AHL

Hutson continues to have a breakout season down in Bakersfield this year. The eldest Hutson sits with 38 points across just 30 games, and is currently third in league-wide AHL scoring, and first among rookies. The Condor is also on pace to post 85 points at the AHL level.

The crafty playmaker has been a direct factor in one third of Bakersfield’s overall goals this year. Talk about being a key offensive piece for a team. This breakout season has not gone unrewarded as Hutson has also played four games with the Oilers, and even scored his first NHL goal too.

Most recently, the organization announced that they have signed Hutson to a two-year extension with $875K average annual value.

Where does this leave Hutson?

Hutson undeniably boosts the scoring-forward depth of the Oilers. Expect Hutson to be a front runner for the AHL’s Red Garrett, rookie of the year award for the 2025–26 season, which could be one of the only awards the Oilers affiliate brings home this season.

At the NHL level this season, in the four games Hutson appeared in he did not average more than 9:17 of TOI per night, hinting to his immediate future as an AHL all-star. The American forward certainly has the smarts, and the puck skills to continue his offensive momentum into the 2026–27 campaign.

Expect for Hutson to be a first liner with the Condors until Stan Bowman and company decide to declutter their NHL bottom six.

This two-year extension has $500,000 guaranteed for the young forward. The extension also takes Hutson to his age 26 season, and would make him one year away from completely unrestricted free agency.

Edmonton Oilers prospect updates

AHL

The Bakersfield Condors secured seven of their possible eight points this past week. They collected a pair of victories against the Abbotsford Canucks on the 6th, and 7th, followed by an overtime loss to San Jose on the 10th, and a 3–0 win against Ontario on the 11th.

Bakersfield now has a 19–10–6 record, good for 44 points, and third in the AHL’s Pacific Division.

The Oilers affiliate averaged 3.75 goals for in their games this past week, and the addition of AHL standout Quinn Hutson, plus reliable goaltending has produced wins for the club.

Forward Josh Samanski has been on a roll, with a three game point streak this past week. Recent addition, WHL alumni, Connor Ungar has been solid in his first five career AHL starts too, posting a .953, and even secured his first career AHL shutout on the 11th against Ontario.

Forward Quinn Hutson was reassigned to the Condors from the Oilers on the 6th. Defender Riley Stillman also got sent on the 9th. Fort Wayne Komet forwards, Brady Stonehouse and Matt Brown were called up from the ECHL on the 11th.

ECHL

Fort Wayne continues to build momentum in the New Year, going 2–1–0 in their games this past week. They collected a 7–4 win against Cinncinati on the 9th, and then split a pair of games against Toledo with a 3–2 win on the 10th, while dropping the game on the following day 3–1.

Fort Wayne is battling with Toledo for first place in the ECHL’s Central division. The Komets currently sit second with 18–8–6 record good for 42 points compared to Toledo’s 44.

There are only three Oilers affiliated prospects assigned to the team, with goaltenders Nathaniel Day, and Samuel Jonsson manning the net, and forward Jayden Grubbe.

The Oiler’s ECHL affiliate experienced a trio of departures with forwards Brady Stonehouse, Matt Brown, and Gustav Muller all departing the team in the last week.

NCAA

2024 seventh-round defender Bauer Berry appeared in one game this past week. The physical bruiser of a defender found the scoresheet with an assist in a 4–2 victory against Minnesota State University on the 10th. Despite Berry’s limited role he is adjusting to the NCAA style of play.

In Barnett’s first games since the WJC, he starts 2026 on a point streak after scoring against Notre Dame on the 9th, and setting up a goal for an assist against them on the 10th. Fellow Oilers prospect, Aidan Park, had a stellar performance on the 10th, posting his only three point game all season with two goals and an assist in 11:37 of TOI.

Defender Paul Fischer found the scoresheet on the 9th, with an assist against Michigan but was a non-factor in their following game on the 10th. The American blueliner is -12 on the campaign so far, and hasn’t posted a positive rating since his November 26th game against Merrimack College.

OHL

Nicholl enters a curious situation, as the London Knights look to retool their roster and sell-off some of their higher end players. These moves come despite hovering around the .600 mark all season. Nicholl played in two games this past week, a 4–1 loss to Brantford on the 9th, and a 4–1 win versus Erie on the 10th. Look for the energy forward to get lots of opportunity the rest of the season.

WHL

Oilers 2025 third rounder, Tommy Lafreniere continues to build momentum in the new year, and leads all Oilers prospects in sheer points with 49 across just 39 games. He left this week on a three game point streak after posting an assist in each of Kamloop’s games against Penticton. The two-way forward is a large beneficiary of being on one of the best lines in the WHL right now, but remains a defensively solid forward.

Russia

Maxim Beryozkin looks to have regained some confidence and momentum, as he is averaging 17 to 18 minutes a game and enters this week on a two game point streak, after assisting on a goal against Metallurg Magnitogorsk on the 6th, and doing the same against Sibir Novosibirsk on the 8th.

Forwards

PlayerPositionGPGAPP/GPPIMTeamLeagueMaxim BeryozkinRW43414180.4212Yaroslavl LokomitivKHLSamuel PoulinW/C341113240.7122Bakersfield CondorsAHLConnor ClattenburgLW202130.1588Bakersfield CondorsAHLJayden GrubbeC/RW2049130.4231Fort Wayne KometsECHLIsaac HowardLW/RW161013231.442Bakersfield CondorsAHLPetr HauserRW353580.2514HC VitkoviceCzechiaQuinn HutsonRW/LW302315381.2730Bakersfield CondorsAHLRoby JärventieLW/RW291112230.7918Bakersfield CondorsAHLTommy LafreniereRW/C392524491.2616Kamloops BlazersWHLDavid LewandowskiLW29824321.1020Saskatoon BladesWHLViljami MarjalaLW/C351022320.916Bakersfield CondorsAHLWilliam NichollC/LW52130.600London KnightsOHLAidan ParkC2285130.5920University of MichiganNCAAMatvei PetrovLW/RW153140.272Bakersfield CondorsAHLJosh SamanskiC/LW34720270.7934Bakersfield CondorsAHLJames StefanRW/LW600000Bakersfield Condors AHLBrady StonehouseRW/LW10222.000Bakersfield CondorsAHLDalyn WakelyC2158130.6220UMass-LowellNCAA

Defence

PlayerPositionGPGAPP/GPPIMTeamLeagueBeau AkeyRD222790.4112Bakersfield CondorsAHLAsher BarnettLD2219100.458University of MichiganNCAABauer BerryLD211450.2412University of St. ThomasNCAADamien CarfagnaLD293690.3110Bakersfield CondorsAHLPaul FischerLD20511160.8035University of Notre DameNCAAAlbin SundinRD342460.1810Timra IKSHLNikita YevseyevLD4138110.2724Amur KhabarovskKHL

Goaltenders

PlayerGPGAASV%RecordSOTeamLeagueNathaniel Day192.56.89410-5-42Fort Wayne KometsECHLSamuel Jonsson112.50.8976-3–23Fort Wayne KometsECHLConnor Ungar51.38.9535-0-01Bakersfield CondorsAHLDaniel Salonen192.57.8759-5-32LukkoLiigaEemil Vinni172.99.8848-5-41JoKPMestis
Like this:

Like Loading…

Two weeks into the New Year means some prospects are already fulfilling their new years resolutions.
