Whether it was the fiery scrap with Boone Jenner<\/a> on Tuesday or the general interest that surrounds defenseman Rasmus Andersson<\/a>, trade talk is heating up. The Calgary Flames are reportedly pushing to get a deal done before the NHL\u2019s Olympic break from Feb. 6\u201325. One team that likes tough guys and good defenders is the Boston Bruins. <\/p>\n

Multiple NHL sources and Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman confirm discussions have intensified, with several contenders actively involved. According to James Murphy of RG.org<\/a>, \u201cThe Bruins have made an offer that includes defenseman Mason Lohrei<\/a> and a first-round pick, with Boston holding two firsts in the 2026 draft thanks to the Brandon Carlo<\/a> trade.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three Atlantic Division teams are leading the charge: Boston, Detroit, and Ottawa. If Boston is making a serious pitch, they may be the frontrunner. The Bruins are well-positioned, holding two first-round selections in the 2026 draft and if they believe Andersson is open to an extension, they seem ready to take a swing. <\/p>\n

Are the Other Teams Not as Serious As Boston?<\/p>\n

Reports suggest that Detroit\u2019s interest comes with conditions. The Red Wings will only proceed if Andersson agrees to a contract extension, and top young defensemen Simon Edvinsson<\/a> and Axel Sandin Pellikka<\/a> are considered untouchable. <\/p>\n

For Ottawa, they remain focused on adding a legitimate right-shot, top-four defenseman to stabilize its blue line, with Andersson fitting that need. They, too, might have a few untouchables as far as young prospects go.<\/p>\n

Beyond the Atlantic, the Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks, and Dallas Stars have also shown interest.<\/p>\n

Friedman noted that while talks around Andersson have stalled before, this stretch feels different, with Calgary being more aggressive than usual. <\/p>\n

Andersson, 29, is in the final year of his six-year deal carrying a $4.5 million cap hit, making him one of the more intriguing defensemen on the trade market.<\/p>\n
