Photo courtesy of Utah Hockey Club <\/p>\nSALT LAKE CITY \u2014\u00a0Utah Hockey Club marked the completion of the structural phase of construction on its state-of-the-art practice and training facility and announced the space will be ready for team use in September 2025. The 115,780 square-foot building will open with two NHL-standard regulation ice surfaces and serve as\u00a0 the team\u2019s official headquarters, inclusive of all training and medical facilities and team offices. In addition to featuring a world-class locker room for the Utah Hockey Club, the facility will also feature best-in-class spaces for visiting NHL teams.<\/p>\n

Located at the southeast end of The Shops at South Town in Sandy, Utah, this new facility will be a vibrant and integral part of the community. By January 2026, the space also will be ready for public use, offering event venues, community locker rooms, equipment rentals, and a team store that also features a pro shop. The ice rinks will be available to the public when not in use by the team, and there will be additional spaces and opportunities for the community to engage with hockey and skating programs such as youth and amateur hockey, figure skating and other recreation programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Utah Hockey Club\u2019s permanent practice and training facility was designed by Salt Lake City-based Babcock Design, and construction is being led by Layton Construction, headquartered in Sandy, Utah.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new facility is one of several notable investments by team owners Ryan and Ashley Smith to grow hockey in Utah. Most recently, Ryan Smith\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0that Smith Entertainment Group \u2014 the parent company of Utah Hockey Club \u2014 will donate up to $500,000 per rink on up to 20 new rinks and provide out-of-the-box plans for cities that can partner with entrepreneurs to build. More details on this initiative will be provided after the close of the 2024-25 NHL season.<\/p>\n About Utah Hockey Club<\/p>\n Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) established Utah\u2019s first-ever NHL franchise in April 2024, with the team set to debut in the 2024-25 season. With this move, SEG introduced the second \u201cBig Four\u201d major professional sports league to Utah for the first time in state history. To be known as Utah Hockey Club for their inaugural season, the club was established with a competitive, dynamic roster and 34 draft picks spanning their first three consecutive seasons (2024-27). The team competes at Delta Center in downtown Salt Lake City, building on the renowned, energetic atmosphere for which Utah\u2019s sports and entertainment scene has become known. The arena\u2019s hockey capacity for Utah\u2019s inaugural season is 11,131 with the option to open thousands of additional single-goal view seats for select games.
