He logged 26:55 in what could be his final game with the Flames, a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Signed at an expiring cap hit of $4.55 million, Andersson was listed at No. 2 on TSN’s first Trade Bait board of 2026 on Thursday.

A trade would end months of speculation around Andersson’s future dating back to last summer as the veteran blueliner approaches unrestricted free agency in July. The Flames came close to a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights in the off-season, but ultimately it never materialized.

“Yeah, he’s getting traded. It’s obvious,” team captain Mikael Backlund told The Athletic’s Michael Russo of Andersson prior to the season. “But the team wants value. He wants a big contract. So he wants to play well. The team needs him to play well. So, just go out and play. I talked to him, too, and he doesn’t want to be a distraction. So it’s all good. It’s too bad it’s come to this. I don’t think that they’re close to getting an agreement or anything, but you never know. Things could change. We’ll see.”

As others have noted, things have heated up on the Rasmus Andersson trade front. He wasn’t held out of the lineup last night, but sense is talks have intensified.
Let’s see where it goes over the next 24-48 hours as to whether it gets done or not.

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) January 16, 2026

Drafted 53rd overall by the Flames in 2015, Andersson has 57 goals and 260 points in 583 career games. Forwards Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman also cracked the top 10 on the Trade Bait board, though TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports the Flames would prefer to keep Coleman for his veteran leadership.

More details to follow.

Trade talks are heating up around Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports.
