No. 8 UMD women’s hockey falls flat against No. 15 St. Cloud State<\/p>\n
In search of its first true win of 2026, eighth-ranked UMD women\u2019s hockey hosted 15th-ranked St. Cloud State on Saturday. Despite an encouraging start, the Bulldogs lost 5-2.<\/p>\n
UMD opened up the scoring two and a half minutes in with a goal from Caitlin Kraemer. Neither team could generate much offense for the remainder of the period before the Huskies flipped a switch to begin the second. <\/p>\n
24 seconds in, St. Cloud was on the power play and Laura Zimmermann lasered one into the back of the net to tie things up. On the very next possession, Maria Mikaelyan broke free and backhanded it past \u00c8ve Gascon to put SCSU in front. <\/p>\n
While the Huskies had a 2-1 lead, they continued to add to their advantage with a pair of tallies in the eighth minute and 16th, the latter of which came on an empty netter. Thea Johansson stopped the Dogs\u2019 cold streak with a score in the final minute before St. Cloud tacked on another empty netter for good measure. <\/p>\n
Despite the outcome, UMD outshot SCSU 39-31. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs had their 13-game unbeaten streak over the Huskies snapped and lost their first home contest in the series since 2019. <\/p>\n
Laura Schuler\u2019s crew is now 12-10-2 and goes for its first win of the new year against No. 14 MSU Mankato at 6:02 p.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n
